The Suffolk County Police Department said the crash happened near Exit 53 in Brentwood at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 20.

Rachel Meyer, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester west on the highway when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median, SCPD reported.

Highway Patrol officers found Meyer unconscious in the Subaru and determined that she was under the influence of drugs, police said.

Her daughter was in a car seat in the back of the Subaru, SCPD reported.

Police said Meyer and her daughter were taken to a hospital, where they were evaluated and released.

SCPD said Meyer was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra's Law) and endangering the welfare of a child.

The baby was released to a family member, police said.

Meyer was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, March 21, SCPD reported.
